    Understanding Cannabis Addiction

Effects and Signs of Substance Use +
Cannabis affects the brain through THC. Its effects and symptoms include:

    • Relaxation and Euphoria, quick to laugh.
    • Altered perception of time and the senses.
    • Increased appetite, dry mouth, and red eyes.
    • Tachycardia.
    • Recent Memory Difficulties, attention, and concentration.
    • Impaired coordination and reflexes (Do not drive or operate machinery while under the influence.)

At high doses or in vulnerable individuals, anxiety, panic attacks, or paranoid thoughts may occur.
Withdrawal Syndrome (when quitting frequent use): irritability, anxiety, insomnia, restlessness, loss of appetite, headache, and low mood. It is not life-threatening, but quitting without help can be difficult. Learning to manage the craving It is a central part of the treatment.

    Dual Diagnosis +
Cannabis is often associated with other mental health issues (dual diagnosis): anxiety, depression, and sleep disturbances. Its relationship with the psychosis: In young or vulnerable individuals, frequent use—especially when it begins in adolescence and involves high-potency products (with high THC content)—can trigger or precipitate a psychotic disorder (including schizophrenia).
    Complications and Risks +
Long-term cannabis use may be associated with various problems. Not everyone has them; they depend on the age at onset, frequency, product strength, and individual factors:

    • Cognitive: difficulties with memory, attention, and learning, which are more pronounced the younger a person starts.
    • Mental health: an increased risk of anxiety, depression, and, in vulnerable individuals, psychotic disorders.
    • Respiratory (smoking): chronic cough and bronchitis.
    • Motivation and Daily Life: lower academic or work performance and less initiative.
    • Department: loss of control over one's consumption.

The initial evaluation allows for the timely detection and treatment of whatever is needed.

    Treatment for Quitting Cannabis +
Cannabis treatment focuses on the withdrawal: Unlike alcohol, it does not usually require complex medical detoxification, because withdrawal from it is not life-threatening, although it is unpleasant. It includes:

    • Initial Assessment substance use, co-occurring disorders, and personal and family circumstances.
    • If there is anxiety, depression, sleep problems, or a risk of psychosis, they are treated at the same time.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Frequently Asked Questions

¿El cannabis puede generar dependencia? +
Yes, it can be addictive. It’s not a matter of willpower: it’s a process that’s worked on, step by step, with a team of professionals.
    Isn't cannabis harmless? +
Will I have to be admitted? +
Is it really possible to quit using cannabis? +
How long does the treatment last? +
It depends on each person; no two cases are alike. During the first interview, we assess your situation and explain a realistic, step-by-step plan to you.
What happens on a first appointment? +
It's a relaxed and confidential interview to get to know you and understand what you need. No judgment.
